Switzerland of Asia "Gulmarg"

When the temperature is below a couple of stage than the freezing point then The Switzerland of Asia "Gulmarg" regained it’s life with the warmth of thousands of tourists. Covered with ice "Gulmarg" is situated about eight thousands feet above the sea level. Above 825 feet and 52 kilometers away from Kashmir’s capital Srinagar, this hill station will make confusion that is this place "Gulmarg" or ice covered any unknown town of Switzerland. From its history it is known that "Gulmarg" was preferred leisure sky space of the King Yousuf Shah Chak and the Emperor Jahangir. The previous name of this ice mountain was "Gaurimarg". It was named after the name of the Hindu god Shiva's wife. But it is named "Gulmarg" in evolution of time and now everyone knows "Gulmarg" as the "Switzerland of Asia". It takes two hours to reach Switzerland of Asia "Gulmarg" from the Srinagar airport. There is situated "Gulmarg Gondola", one of the world's most highest cable cars. Which can go up to three thousand 3797 meters high. Tourists from different countries came here and make mistakes thinking "Gulmarg" as Switzerland. Like Switzerland "Gulmarg" has also sledding and skiing system.

‘এশিয়ার সুইজারল্যান্ড’ গুলমার্গ

নতুন বছরের শুরুতে যখন তাপমাত্রা হিমাঙ্কের কয়েক ধাপ নিচে, তখন কয়েক হাজার উত্সাহী পর্যটকের উষ্ণতায় নতুন করে প্রাণ ফিরে পেল ‘এশিয়ার সুইজারল্যান্ড’ গুলমার্গ। সমুদ্রপৃষ্ঠের আট হাজার ফুট উঁচুতে অবস্থিত বরফে ঢাকা গুলমার্গ। জম্মু-কাশ্মীরের বারামুলা জেলার ছোট্ট একটি হিল স্টেশন এই গুলমার্গ। কাশ্মীরের রাজধানী শ্রীনগর থেকে ৫২ কিলোমিটার দূরে এবং আট হাজার ৮২৫ ফুট উপরে এই হিল স্টেশনে গেলে দ্বিধা সৃষ্টি হবেই, স্থানটি গুলমার্গ নাকি সুইজারল্যান্ডের কোনো বরফঢাকা অচেনা শহর। এর ইতিহাস সম্পর্কে ঘাঁটতে গিয়ে দেখা যায়, রাজা ইউসুফ শাহ চাক এবং সম্রাট জাহাঙ্গীরের পছন্দের অবকাশযাপনের স্থান ছিল এই গুলমার্গ। এই বরফপর্বতের আগের নাম ছিল ‘গৌরিমার্গ’। হিন্দু দেবতা শিবের স্ত্রীর নামে এই পর্বতের নাম রাখা হয়েছিল। কিন্তু কালের বিবর্তনে ওই নাম এক সময় হয়ে যায় গুলমার্গ এবং এখন সবাই একে ‘এশিয়ার সুইজারল্যান্ড’ হিসেবেই চেনে। শ্রীনগর এয়ারপোর্ট থেকে দুই ঘণ্টার পথ পাড়ি দিয়েই পৌঁছে যাওয়া যায় এশিয়ার সুইজারল্যান্ডে। ওখানেই আছে ‘গুলমার্গ গন্ডোলা’, বিশ্বের সবচেয়ে উঁচু কেবল কারের মধ্যে একটি এটি। যা ৩৭৯৭ মিটার উঁচু পর্যন্ত উঠতে পারে। বিভিন্ন দেশের পর্যটকরা কাশ্মীরের এই বরফঢাকা শহরে এসে একে সুইজহারল্যান্ড ভেবে ভুল করে। গুলমার্গে রয়েছে সুইজারল্যান্ডের মতোই স্লেজিং এবং স্কিইংয়ের ব্যবস্থা।
